Additional Information about the RTS outage on 3/25/2015

 

Good afternoon,

As you are aware the Registration and Titling System was inaccessible yesterday from approximately 12:00 P.M to 5:15 PM CST.  TxDMV would like to share additional information on the cause of the outage on Tuesday, March 25, 2015.  The outage was due to a hardware failure of the primary database server’s power supplies.  The hardware failure occurred in such a manner that the automatic failover to the backup server did not occur. 

Moving forward TxDMV is working with the Department of Information Resources and the Data Center Services support staff in an effort to further reduce the risk and potential  impact of future hardware failures.  It is events such as these that reinforce  the need to continue moving forward with the RTS Refactoring Project.
