Misprint of Trailer Renewal Notices

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

The “Mobility/Clean Air Fee” for certain trailers was printed in error on approximately 2,200 registration renewal notices with a December 2017 expiration and 2,300 notices with a January 2018 expiration. These December and January renewal notices are being reprinted without the $7.50 “Mobility/Clean Air Fee” due to the error.

The “Mobility/Clean Air Fee” was approved as a result of Senate Bill 1001, 85th Legislative Session, and was effective September 1, 2017, for certain trailers with a gross vehicle weight from 4,501 lbs. to 7,500 lbs. Trailers that are exempt from the new fee include all farm trailers and trailers registered with Disaster Relief license plates.

All automated systems, including the Registration and Title System (RTS), the Internet Vehicle Title and Registration Service, and webSUB, are programmed to charge the correct amount due at the time of renewal even if a customer completes the renewal early with a notice printed in error. Any renewals received by mail in which the payment remitted does not match the fee in RTS must be returned to the renewal recipient.

If you have any questions concerning this communication, please contact your local TxDMV Regional Service Center.

Thank you,
