This is to inform you that the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) Board took action to adopt rules related to limited and full service deputies. The board originally proposed Administrative Rules that were published in the Texas Register on May 23, 2014.
At the board meeting held on September 12, 2014, TxDMV staff recommended the board amend the originally proposed rules. The amended rules removed sections 217.112 through 217.116. The remaining Section 217.111 was amended to allow a deputy appointed under Section 520.0091, Transportation Code, to perform services that were previously authorized in the former Sections 520.008, 520.009, 520.0091, and 520.0092 (repealed House Bill 2202, 83rd Regular Legislative Session).
The adoption of ‘new’ Texas Administrative Code, Section 217.111, Deputies, was required to maintain the current status quo for deputies until the department is able to adopt comprehensive deputy rules. The adopted rules should be published in the October 3, 2014, issue of the Texas Register with an effective date for the new deputy rule of October 6, 2014.
The department will propose new deputy rules following the completion of our study on the cost to process motor vehicle registration and titling transactions being conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute.
