The Registration and Title System (RTS) Enforces 24 Months of Registration with a Two-Year Inspection

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

This is to inform you that RTS has been programmed to recognize and enforce 24 months of registration when applicable. This programming change is part of the next RTS release scheduled for rollout the evening of Sunday, September 27, 2015.

Counties will no longer need to modify the registration expiration year in RTS to correctly calculate 24 months of registration. The requirements for mandatory 24-month registration were covered in RTB #005-15 and #007-15 and presented in several webinars held for counties and dealers. Attached is an updated list of all 24-month, eligible registration classes.

If you have any questions or concerns, counties may contact their local TxDMV Regional Service Center and dealers may contact their local county tax assessor-collector office.

Thank you,

Jeremiah Kuntz, Director
Vehicle Titles and Registration Division
Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
