Fading Registration Sticker Paper

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) was recently notified of instances in which the exterior facing blue border surrounding the year of expiration on valid registration stickers have faded to a gray color after installation.  The stickers have been in circulation since April 2020.  The TxDMV has been in contact with Tax Assessor-Collector offices statewide and have only identified five (5) counties with instances of faded stickers at this time. Those impacted counties have been notified of the situation.

TxDMV is currently working with our forms supplier to determine the cause of this degradation, assess the number of stickers impacted, and begin production of improved forms.  In the meantime, the existing sticker paper inventory will continue to be used.  The validity of registration can be verified by querying the State Registration and Title System.  Please do not rely on the color of the sticker to determine validity at this time.

Thank you,

Roland D. Luna, Sr., Director
Vehicle Titles and Registration Division
Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
