Inspection Verification Prior to Printing a Buyer's Tag

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

A buyer’s tag is required to be issued for the retail sale of a vehicle. Unless exempt by statute, a passing inspection is required for the issuance of a buyer’s tag. As a result, a buyer’s tag cannot be issued without completion of the required inspection. The inspection database is typically updated in near real-time but could take up to five minutes depending on internet connectivity. If the inspection is not found when processing the buyer’s tag, please wait at least five minutes before trying again. If the inspection still cannot be found, ensure your system has an active connection to the internet. If the problem persists, contact your Texas Department of Public Safety inspection representative, or visit the DPS website at www.dps.texas.gov/section/vehicle-inspection.

Thank you,

Annette Quintero, Director
Vehicle Titles and Registration Division
Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
