Oversize/Overweight Permit Name Changes

On August 1, 2024, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will implement changes within the Texas Permitting and Routing Optimization System (TxPROS) so that the permit names are consistent with Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 623, and recent changes to 43 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 219. The term “crane” has been replaced with “unladen lift equipment motor vehicle” and the spelling of “fracing” has been changed to “fracking”. The permit type “super heavy” will now be one word, “superheavy”.

The permit name changes to the Permit Type drop down selection in TxPROS are listed below:

  • “Crane (Annual)” will change to “Unladen Lift Equipment (Annual)”
  • “Crane (S/P Mileage)” will change to “Unladen Lift Equipment (S/P Mileage)”
  • “Fracing Trailer (Annual)” will change to “Fracking Trailer (Annual)”
  • “Super Heavy” will change to “Superheavy”

The load descriptions and printed names on the permits will also have these name changes.

For assistance or questions regarding these changes, please contact the TxDMV Permit Office at 1-800-299-1700, option 2.
