With Registration and Title System (RTS) Release 24.2, a NMVTIS brand check will be performed in real-time to check for salvage and nonrepairable-related brands prior to the issuance of temporary tags. Users will continue to follow the same process when issuing or obtaining temporary tags. This programming enhancement supports the department’s continued efforts in detecting and preventing temporary tag fraud.
When the brand check is performed and a salvage or nonrepairable-related brand is identified as the latest brand, users of the systems will receive a message preventing the issuance of the temporary tag. The 24.2 RTS release notes and webDEALER addendum will provide further processing details and specific messages.
RTS Point of Sale (POS)
Counties will be prompted to advise their customer to obtain a NMVTIS title check for information regarding the specific brand(s) found when processing one of the following:
• 30-Day Permit
• One-Trip Permit
• 72-Hour Permit
• 144-Hour Permit
Regional Service Centers will receive a message based on the type of brand found but should advise their customer to obtain a NMVTIS title check for information regarding the specific brand(s) found when processing one of the above permits.
webPERMIT
Applicants will be prompted to obtain a NMVTIS title check for information regarding the specific brand(s) found when processing one of the following:
• 72-Hour Permit
• 144-Hour Permit
eTAG
Dealers and converters will be prompted to obtain a NMVTIS title check for information regarding the specific brand(s) found when processing one of the following:
• Buyer Tag
• Vehicle Specific Tag
• Converter Tag
All vehicles with a salvage or nonrepairable brand are ineligible for registration and may not be issued a temporary tag of any kind. These vehicles are not allowed to operate on the roads. The type of brand found with the NMVTIS check will determine the available options for the permit applicant, dealer or converter. Programming changes will be implemented to each system in a phased approach spaced a few days apart beginning with RTS POS on Monday May 13, 2024, followed by webPERMIT, then vehicle specific and converter tags in eTAG, and finally buyer tags in eTAG.
