More Than Metal: New Texas Plates Let Drivers Celebrate Service, Compassion, and School Pride
From Army Rangers to animal rescue efforts, the latest specialty plates turn everyday vehicles into rolling statements of support.
(AUSTIN, Texas – March 10, 2026) Texans can show their style—mile after mile—with new specialty license plates available in 2026. The new designs, created by the 89th Texas Legislature, give vehicle owners meaningful ways to support causes they care about and honor communities they belong to.
“Texas specialty license plates tell stories,” said Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) Executive Director Daniel Avitia. “The primary purpose of a license plate will always be public safety—making sure vehicles can be identified quickly and accurately on our roads. But specialty plates also give Texans a way to express who they are and what they stand for.”
How to Order
Texans can order specialty license plates through the state’s specialty license plate vendor, MyPlates, or through their county tax assessor-collector’s office. Many specialty license plates can be personalized, allowing applicants to select the numbers and letters that appear on their plate.
