Online Verification of TxDMV GDN and Salvage Dealer Licenses Available

Good Afternoon,

 A current list of active GDN and salvage dealer licensees is available on the TxDMV website here. The information provided in this license lookup is updated daily and should be considered the most current information available. A search can be conducted by Business Name, Assumed Name/DBA, License Number, City, and/or County. A complete spreadsheet of active dealers is also available for download if the search does not return the desired results.

The current status of a license was recently added to the available fields shown on the search results page and can be used as primary verification of a GDN or Salvage dealer license. Please see below for a breakdown of what each license status means:

  • Active – The license is currently active with an expiration date listed in the future. The license is in full force and effect.
  • APA Expired – The license is considered active but has an expiration date listed in the past. This status means that a renewal application was received prior to the license expiration date and is currently being reviewed by TxDMV staff. If a license is in APA Expired status, this should be considered an active license for all business needs. A status of APA Expired means that the renewal has not yet been approved or denied. Licenses in APA Expired status remain in full force and effect until a final determination is made by TxDMV staff on the renewal application. Metal license plates will also remain in full force and effect under this license status.

Processing Update and Application Status Guide for TxDMV GDN and Salvage Dealer Licenses

TxDMV is currently experiencing increased processing times for all dealer license applications, including renewals. Please direct third parties to the license verification page on the TxDMV’s website here to verify your license status. In addition, please submit your renewal applications as early as possible to allow time for the current processing delay. Renewals can be submitted as early as 90 days prior to the license expiration date.

Once an application is submitted, there are a variety of internal reviews and processes that the application will undergo. The current status of an application can be viewed here. The full 9-digit application number, including any leading zeros, must be entered for a result to be viewed. Please see below for a breakdown of the most common Application Status Codes you may see when verifying the status of an application:

  • Assigned – Your application has been assigned to a Licensing Specialist. A deficiency letter will be sent to you within one week. No action is required from you at this time.
  • Deficiency – Your application requires additional documentation to be submitted to your assigned Licensing Specialist in order to continue the licensing process. Please refer to the deficiency notice sent to your application contact e-mail.  If you have uploaded the requested documentation please allow 10 business days for review by your assigned specialist.
  • Fingerprinting – Your application is being reviewed by the Identity Background team. The ownership of the account will be analyzed during this stage and an email will be sent if fingerprints are required. Do not get fingerprinted unless you receive an instructional email from the TxDMV.
  • Pending – Your application has not yet been received. Additional action is required from you to submit the application to the TxDMV for processing and review. You will receive a confirmation email from eLICENSING when MVD has received your application.
  • Pre-Screening – Your application completed an initial review and is lacking basic documentation. An email will be sent with additional information on what is needed.
  • Ready to Assign – Your application has completed the Screening stage and is waiting in the queue to be assigned to the next available Licensing Specialist. No action is required from you at this time.
  • Received – Your application was received but has not yet been reviewed. No action is required from you at this time.
  • Screening – Your application is being reviewed by a Quality Assurance Specialist to determine any potential licensing concerns related to identity, disciplinary history, or fraud. No action is required from you at this time.
  • Under Review – Your application is being reviewed by your assigned licensing specialist or the licensing management team. No action is required from you at this time.

Good morning,

On the weekend of June 17, 2023, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV)
will update the webDealer System starting at 6:00 PM Saturday (06/17/2023), lasting 
up to 10:00 AM Sunday (06/18/2023).  During the deployment window, you may
experience intermittent connectivity when accessing the webDealer system. 

As a reminder, if you are unable to print buyer’s tags, you should use your pre-printed Internet
Down tags. Every dealer is allowed a minimum of 30 Internet Down tags. Please remember that
after using an Internet Down tag, you must enter the information for that tag into webDealer
as soon as the system is accessible.  Doing this, will ensure you always have the full allocation of
unused Internet Down tags available when you need them. Internet Down tags are valid for one
year from the date they are printed.

Note: A notification update will be published once the webDealer deployment is 
completed.

Simplifying services and fighting fraud
 garner industry recognition

TxDMV programs and initiatives focus on customer service and fraud prevention

(AUSTIN, Texas – May 30, 2023) The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) recognizes the success of recent Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) initiatives that have improved the safety and convenience of motor vehicle services.

Texas by Texas (TxT) Mobile Application
The TxT mobile application earned an AAMVA regional Customer Convenience Service Award. This award recognizes jurisdictions for improving customer-facing processes. TxT is the state’s first digital assistant, providing an easy, fast and secure way to take care of state services.

Beyond being a mobile-friendly option, TxT provides customers with a new and improved experience over transactions performed online with traditional web browsers. Texans renewing their vehicle registration now have access to a more personalized and responsive experience.

The department successfully integrated vehicle registration renewal services onto the TxT platform in collaboration with the Texas Department of Information Resources and the state’s private sector technology partner Deloitte.

“Texans deserve a quick and easy process for renewing their vehicle registration,” said TxDMV Executive Director Daniel Avitia. “This is part of an ongoing effort to improve how Texans access government services in line with the streamlined, one-stop-shop experiences they have come to expect.”

Temporary Tags and Dealer Licensing Improvements
Improvements to temporary tags and motor vehicle dealer license improvements earned the AAMVA Fraud Prevention and Detection Award. This award recognizes new programs or initiatives that enhance or ensure the integrity of products and services in a jurisdiction. AAMVA selected Texas tag and licensing improvements as both a regional winner and the overall international winner.

Enhancements to the dealer licensing process included:

  • Enhanced verification of property ownership records.
  • Requirements for additional ownership and premises documents.
  • Creation of a Background and Fraud Unit to review dealer license applications.
  • Implementation of a fingerprinting requirement for dealer license applicants.

Enhancements to TxDMV systems included:

  • Establishment of maximum temporary tag issuance limits for dealers.
  • Denial of dealers’ access to the tag system when fraudulent activity is identified.
  • Establishment of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) decoding and VIN validation.
  • Redesign of temporary tags to facilitate law enforcement identification of counterfeit tags.

Although there will always be criminals who will seek ways to circumvent the law, Texas has addressed law enforcement’s principal outstanding concerns with the previous vehicle registration process.

“The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will continue to work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement entities to prioritize the reduction of fraud to protect the public,” Avitia said.

AAMVA is a nonprofit association that works with North American motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies to develop model programs and best practices in motor vehicle administration, law enforcement, and highway safety.

The issues relating to countywide reports have now been resolved.

Depending on your office ID, there are certain procedures you need to follow
in order to rerun requests to generate correct reports. 

Please reference the file attachment on this bulletin which provides information
to help you determine your Office ID.

Procedure to rerun your report requests

For Office IDs 1 through 153 –

    Step 1.  Go to  Funds, Funds Management, rerun Countywide        

    Step 2.  Enter 5/18/2023 for the Report Date        

    Step 3.  Click Enter

For Office IDs 154 through 254 (if you are missing internet renewal transactions (99))  –

   (If you choose to not run Steps 1 through 7 below, and you are missing the 99 data,
   that data will automatically show up tomorrow, following tonight’s report run.)

   Step 1.  Go to Funds, Funds Management, Rerun Substation Summary

   Step 2 . Enter 5/18/2023 for the Report Date

   Step 3.  Choose Cash Drawer 99 only

   Step 4.  When prompted to Confirm Action CLT001, please confirm for the 5/18/2023 date

   Step 5.  Once Steps 1 to 4 are completed, go to  Funds, Funds Management, rerun Countywide

   Step 6.  Enter 5/18/2023 for the Report Date        

   Step 7.  Click Enter

Update @ 11:52 AM, Monday, 05/22/2023

Due to the timing of the batch run for reporting on Thursday, 5/18/23, both the 5/18/23 and the
5/19/23 data for the Cash Drawer 99 report will be on the 5/18/23 countywide report.  The
5/19/23 countywide report will not show any data.  You will need to rerun the countywide report
for 5/18/23 if you haven’t done so already.

the  countywide reports for Offices 1 through 153.  Currently, these reports are not
incorporating yesterday’s date (05/18/2023) within the reports.

Support Staff are working to resolve the issue.

information relating to Office ID numbers for your convenience.

An update will be sent once the issue is resolved, along with instructions on how
to rerun your countywide report.

Cognos Self-Service Reports are also available at this time.

The Cognos Active Registration Cube, used for access to Cognos and Administrative
Reporting, is still delayed at this time.  

We expect the Cognos Registration Cube reporting should be available by tomorrow.

Cognos Active Registration Cube processing has completed successfully.

ALL REPORTS (Self-Service, Cognos and Administrative) are now available.

The TxDMV RTS Batch for the night of 5/11/2023 is still processing at this time, including
transactions and reporting.  For this reason, the Cognos Active Registration Cube, used for access to self-service reporting needs, Cognos and Administrative Reporting will be delayed, including the following:

Update Notification: CRD Call Center intermittently unavailable (05/11/2023 @ 04:48 PM)

Good evening,

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ contact center has been experiencing intermittent phone line connection issues. 

Support staff were able to identify the cause of the connection issues and are working to resolve as quickly as possible. As work continues intermittent outages might be noticed on the VPN at Headquarters from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM this evening.

We apologize for any inconvenience from dropped calls or extended wait times.
