Last Chance for the Sale of the Century — 100th Anniversary License Plate

Last Chance for the Sale of the Century Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Texas License Plate Offer Ends August 31

100 Year Plate

(AUSTIN, Texas – August 16, 2018) An offer like this comes around only once every 100 years! The last chance for Texans to order a limited edition 100th Anniversary Texas license plate from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is Friday, Aug. 31, 2018. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate license plates in Texas on your vehicle.

The State of Texas began issuing a standardized license plate design in 1917. To mark the 100th anniversary, TxDMV introduced a special 100 Year Plate on Sept. 1, 2017. Texans who want to show their state pride by displaying this plate on their vehicle must order before the end of August 2018.

“The specialty license plate program allows drivers to give their plates a more personal touch. Plate enthusiasts, collectors, historians and everyday Texans can commemorate this 100-year milestone by displaying a piece of plate history,” said TxDMV Executive Director Whitney Brewster.

Consumer Alert: TxDMV Urges Texans to Protect Themselves before Hiring a Moving Company

Don’t Make A Move Without Us!Consumer Alert: TxDMV Urges Texans to Protect Themselves before Hiring a Moving Company

(AUSTIN, Texas – August 9, 2018) The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is helping consumers fight back against rogue moving companies as many families complete their moves before the new school year begins. TxDMV urges Texans to protect themselves from hiring unscrupulous movers.

All Texas movers are required to be licensed with TxDMV. If you hire one that is not, you risk losing your household goods.

“Hiring an unlicensed moving company is like inviting a burglar into your house, showing him which of your possessions are the most valuable and watching him load them into a truck and drive away, perhaps never to be seen again,” said TxDMV Executive Director Whitney Brewster. “Don’t make a move without us! The first thing you should do before hiring a mover is check with TxDMV.”

July 2018 Registration Manual Update

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

The latest update to the Motor Vehicle Registration Manual (attached) is now available via Registration and Title System (RTS) workstations and at www.txdmv.gov.

We welcome your feedback and encourage you to email any comments or suggestions to VTR_Title_Reg-Manual-Update@txdmv.gov (please note the underscores between VTR and Title and Title and Reg).

Updates for this release are marked with red change bars in the text.

Chapter 19 – Military Specialty License Plates
Section 19.2, “General Application Procedures,” was updated to include information that personalized military license plates not renewed within the 60 day renewal period are purged from the system and the owner is required to re-apply. However, military license plates that are not personalized are not purged. This was a defect that was fixed with the RTS Release 9.0.

Chapter 22 – Inspection Verification
Several sections of this chapter were updated in an effort to clean-up information that was only relevant during the first few years of the Single Sticker program.

Appendix C
The “P&H Fee Distributions by Entity” chart was updated due to a change in Administrative Rule §217.168. The $1 Dealer Deputy fee was removed from the Deputy Compensation column and added to the County Compensation column. Programming efforts to accommodate this change were part of the RTS Release 9.1.

Motorcycle Dealerships Notification

ATTENTION ALL MOTORCYCLE DEALERSHIPS

It has come to our attention that not all motorcycle dealerships in Texas are including destination (freight) charges and dealer prep fees (handling) in the advertised sales price of motorcycles on their websites.

According to Texas Administrative Code, Title 43, Part 10, Chapter 215, Subchapter H, Rule § 215.250(a):

When featuring a sales price of a new or used motor vehicle in an advertisement, the dealer must be willing to sell the motor vehicle for that featured sales price to any retail buyer.
