Please find the attached Extension of Comment Period for 43 TAC §217.27, which was published in the In Addition section of the Texas Register on Friday, June 29, 2018.  The comment period for the proposed changes to §217.27 has been extended for an additional 30 days with comments accepted through 5:00 p.m. on July 30, 2018. The proposed language is attached and it is also available on the Office of the Secretary of State’s website at http://www.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/sos/index.html.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has published in the Texas Register proposed changes to the Texas Administrative Code, which affect Chapter 215, §215.85. These proposed changes are posted for public comment until 5:00 p.m. on August 6, 2018. The proposed language is attached and it is also available on the Office of the Secretary of State’s website at http://www.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/pdf/currview/index.shtml.

Inaugural Performance Quality Recognition Program Award Recipients Honored

(AUSTIN, Texas – June 20, 2018) The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) honors the inaugural award recipients of the department’s new Performance Quality Recognition Program. The awards recognize county tax assessor-collectors that exceed expected customer service and go above and beyond in complying with requirements related to vehicle title and registration services.

“The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and our partners in the counties are ‘driven to serve’ our communities,” said TxDMV Executive Director Whitney Brewster at a meeting of the TxDMV Board on June 14. “The Performance Quality Recognition Program award recipients are committed to delivering the exceptional and efficient customer service that residents expect and deserve.”

Online Temporary Permits

With the implementation of Registration and Title System (RTS) Release 9.1.0, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) introduced new security features for online temporary permits. These security features are intended to help prevent the permits from being used fraudulently. In addition to the recently implemented security features, the TxDMV has been working on additional features to enhance security of the temporary permits.

Based on the implementation timeframe for the additional security features and law enforcement concern of fraudulent activity, One-Trip and 30-Day Permits are temporarily unavailable online. Customers will still have the option to purchase One-Trip and 30-Day Permits through the county offices and 16 TxDMV Regional Service Centers via RTS. The 72-Hour and 144-Hour Permits are still available online.

At this time, we do not have a date when the One-Trip and 30-Day Permits will be made available online, but we will keep you informed. We appreciate your patience as we work to make the online temporary permit application better.

The network issue has been identified as a major incident at AT&T. This issue impacts over 1500 telecommunication circuits across Texas. An update will be provided as more information becomes available.

Support staff continue to work with AT&T to identify the issue that is impacting multiple RTS office locations and preventing users from logging into the system. An update will be sent by the end of business today (06/12/2018) or as more information becomes available.

The RTS system experienced intermittent connectivity issues which caused a limited number of users to experience difficulty closing out their workstations. If you were unable to close out your workstation tonight, Monday, June 11, 2018 please contact the Service Desk so we may assist you in closing out before stating the new business day, Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
